Students will be in a jazz band/combo, attend jazz history workshops, listen to music of jazz masters, practice ear training, and study jazz improvisation.

Play jazz? This is for you. Never played jazz? This is for you. All concert band wind instruments (including flute, clarinet, Euphonium, etc.) and drum set, piano, bass, and guitar, are accepted. Each week builds on the last – registration for all three weeks is recommended.

The Kicks Band of Fargo Moorhead is pleased to announce open registration for musicians of all ages with two or more years of band experience. All wind instruments are accepted, including flute, clarinet, euphonium, etc. Space is limited for drums, piano, bass, and guitar; register early to secure a spot.

You will be performing in a jazz band/combo with others at a similar playing level, attending jazz history/listening/ear training sessions, studying jazz improvisation, and participating in a jazz combo or big band. No prior jazz experience is required.

● All ages accepted. Beginning, Intermediate, and Advanced groups each session.

● All concert band wind instruments, drum set, piano, bass, and guitar are accepted.

● Learn from ten instructors teaching jazz at each session.

● There are no refunds, but transfers to another student are possible.

Each weekly session is four days long, Monday-Thursday from 9:00 -11:45 am at MSUM, Roland Dille Center for the Arts, Moorhead, MN. Also included is an optional noon-1:15 big-band and jazz-soloing jam sessions (M, T, W). Attending all three sessions is best to build your skills.

– Where: MSUM, Roland Dille Center for the Arts, Music Department, Moorhead, MN.
– When: Three exciting 4-day sessions (Mon-Thu, 9:00 – 11:45 am).
– Optional: Big band and jam sessions, noon-1:15 M-T-W.

– Tuition: We encourage registration for all 3 sessions. Early bird registration is due by May 4 is $300. After May 4, the registration cost is $375. Attend one or two sessions for $150 per session.

– Session 3: July 27-30

This will be a fun jazz immersion experience. You’ll study Jazz improvisation, jazz history, jazz theory, and ear-training at your level of understanding. You’ll develop your knowledge and experience performing America’s authentic art form: JAZZ!

No previous jazz experience is required, but you do need to know how to play a band instrument. At least two years of playing experience.
