The Mission of the Fargo/Moorhead Kicks Band
Preserve the traditions of big band jazz.

Educate and promote America’s jazz heritage.
Provide top quality musical experiences for our jazz community.
The Kicks Band was formed in 1975 by Dr. Edward Christianson, with help from Dewey Possehl and Dr. James Condell. The purpose of the band was to give the best musicians in town opportunities to read first-rate big band literature, to improvise jazz and to enjoy music socializing. Ed made it a priority to provide all band members’ opportunities to improvise and to feel musically satisfied. We take pride in continuing the traditions that Ed set.
